Shell Rock River Greenbelt

Potential IBA

Cerro Gordo County  

Directions:  Take Hwy 122 east of Mason City to the blacktop and the sign marked for Rock Falls. Go north to 295th street and then east approx. 2 miles.

Description:  Along the Shell Rock river, it is rest area for many species during migration time. In winter it is significant habitat for wintering species. The following species were seen during the Iowa Breeding Bird Atlas project: (1 Endangered Species): Northern Harrier (3 High Priority Species): Black-billed Cuckoo, Grasshopper Sparrow, and Bobolink.
