Dan Green Slough/Kirchner Prairie

Potential IBA

Clay County

Directions:  County Blacktop B17 seven miles east from Hwy 71 curves around the southwest end of Dan Green Slough, and Kirchner Prairie is one mile southwest, still part of the slough drainage. Private pasture with a significant slough connects the two parcels.

Description:  This wide open wetland habitat and associated uplands provides nesting habitat and a critical stopover for gulls, herons, rails and waterfowl. Its proximity to but differentiation from the Ruthven wetlands complex is also significant. Species listing includes Bald Eagle, N. Harrier, Peregrine Falcon, Short-eared Owl, both bitterns, Black-crowned Night Heron, Forster's and Black Terns.
