Pine Creek WMA and Iverson Bottoms WMA

Description:  Iverson Bottoms WMA consists of wooded bluffs, streamside woods, and second growth overlooking the Upper Iowa River. Pine Creek WMA, found along a nearby wooded tributary, features similar habitat but includes more extensive oak woodland and open grassy areas. The two properties total 964 acres, and there is a small patch of private land in between. Criteria species recently detected during the breeding season are American Woodcock, Cerulean Warbler, and Wood Thrush. These species are all of high conservation priority. Broad-winged Hawk, Pileated Woodpecker, and Kentucky Warbler summer at a similar site (Coon Creek/Upper Iowa River Complex) and are among the criteria species that may also breed at Pine Creek/Iverson Bottoms. Additional birds of interest found here in summer include Ruffed Grouse, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Yellow-throated Vireo, Blue-winged Warbler, Ovenbird, and Scarlet Tanager.
